Alto, Tenor Saxophone & Vocals: Penny 'Money' Millen

"What's a nice girl from Hertfordshire doing messin' with the blues?"

"Well if you feel it brothers and sisters, you just feel it, and that's the truth. You gotta play it, and play it on the money."

At the age of 12 I got my hands on a tenor sax and it was love! I was into Jazz, Big Band, Blues, Swing then Soul, Motown, Funk and couldn't wait to join a band. My nice girls' school didn't do bands so, aged 14, I started my own - 'Diminished 7th'.

Let's skip on some years - I worked at the BBC in London in radio production and as a sound engineer, recording in studios and on live broadcasts. I continued playing in various bands, and slowly music became more than my hobby but what I actually wanted to be doing. Time for a downshift!

I moved north to Barnsley in 2006 in search of some fresh air, and set about finding a band to play with...

A few dodgy starts later...

I was browsing on MySpace and came across the Grey Cooper Love Party. Wow, what a band! And they were looking for a singer!! So I called up Grey, ran to HQ for the audition, and found my Sheffield soul brothers.

Singing and playing my sax with the Love Party then led to me joining Grey Cooper Blues Experience good times!
